The turn off to Taupo Bay is situated 8 km. south of Mangonui on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway. From there its 13 km to one of New Zealand's best beaches.

Taupo Bay greets you with a magnificent view over the sheltered bay as you begin your descent towards the beach.

The beach is sheltered and quiet. A great place for a family picnic. Stroll along the beach, go swimming, snorkelling, or fishing. Explore the rock pools at low tide.

Members of the Ngati Rua Maori living in the area say the variety of seafood to be gathered is second to none!    

Taupo Bay is one of the top surfing beaches on Northlands East Coast.

At the eastern end of the beach the estuary and river enters the sea and creates a sandbar that on its day creates peeling hollow right handers as good as anywhere.

With its crystal clear warm water and well formed waves, it is well worth the visit, if beach culture and the search for the perfect wave is your passion.
